Newberry Six Lynchings In Jonesville, lives some descendants of the Newberry Six, four men and two women who were lynched by a mob - one was shot, five were hanged - on Aug. 19, 1916.

The seldom-examined Newberry Six lynchings are an example of a gap in the historical narrative.

A quiet Florida citrus town became the scene of a gruesome racial cleansing that purged the entire black population for over 60 years. The Ocoee massacre was a white mob attack on African-American residents in northern Ocoee, Florida, which occurred on November 2, 1920, the day of the presidential election.

The word ‘massacre' has a distinct definition in sociology. The idea of black citizens voting, especially voting Republican, could not be tolerated.

The Late Rev. Fred Maxwell Discusses the Ocoee Race Riot. This is the Story of July Perry of Ocoee. July Perry had become the well-respected godfather of the black community. He served as a deacon in the church and the local labor leader.
